The Ikogosi warm water springs as a tourist center is located in Ikogosi, a town in Ekiti state, South-West Nigeria. Next to the warm water spring is the cold water spring flowing, which meets the warm water spring at a confluence. Each of the spring maintain its natural form. The warm water spring has a temperature of about 70 degree centigrade at the source and 37 degree centigrade at the confluence (the meeting point). The meeting point makes it a unique place for tourists. The springs is surrounded by hills with thick green vegetation trees. The trees also serve as a shield or canopy in which tourists could stay during dry season and sunny days. The gentle breeze and the topography of the surrounding hills add more to the aesthetic beauty of the spring.
Basically, there were different belief about the existence of the springs and a scientific proof also about the existence. History made us to know that it were wives of the same husband that turn to the springs (warm and cold) in the wake of rift and rivalry between them. The temperamental first wife turned to the warm spring and cool tempered second wife turned to the cold spring water while their husband became the hills that surrounds the springs. Aftermath of this, the villagers worship the springs as their deities.
History also claimed that it was a hunter that discovered the springs during his hunting expedition. After that, the villagers discovered that the warm water serve as a therapy for sickness and diseases. This discovery made them to start worshiping the springs until 1960’s when Tai Solarin (an author) brought his students to the site for tourism and starts to publish the site until the missionaries came to build camps there.
Scientifically, there was a proof that the deeper a body of water goes underground, the hotter it becomes and if by chance it is forced back to the surface through some earth fault, the temperature will be relatively high. There are also trees that grew out from the spring which represents both the cold and hot water. Despite the fact that the two springs flows and meet together, one can still feel the warm and cold effects separately .i.e. their thermal quality. The temperature of the warm spring increases when there is rainfall and during dry season.
According to Rt. Rev. Richard Burke, an Irish catholic Bishop who lived in Nigeria for thirty years. He said “I believe there is nowhere in the world where cold and warm water meets, except at the Ikogosi spring. Any other one would be man-made, which is artificial. Ikogosi is a miracle of nature and sacred place where God exhibited his power of creativity”.

Ikogosi is source to Gossy Table Water by UAC foods because the water is highly rich with minerals essential for the body. Ikogosi is a nice place to visit because of its topographic features. It is one of the A-list site to visit for tourism. The spring is just a few minutes walk to the security post. During my first visit we were told to get a gallon in order to get the warm and cold water. There is a popular saying that ‘seen is believing.
